In their previous contest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at home, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were defensive with their bowling plans. And their coach, Stephen Fleming, admitted the same as they came with some aggression in the power play against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Chennai started well but lost their way in the middle overs when the two middle-order batters, captain Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal, went hard against their bowlers. It was also a missed calculation, perhaps from Ruturaj Gaikwad, to bring Shivam Dube for the second over.

After a good first over in the innings where he picked up the wicket of Phil Salt for 46 runs, Gaikwad threw the ball at Dube for the 13th over of the innings. After a wide and a single to begin the proceedings, Dube’s slower ball was deposited into the stands by Patidar, who was surprised by the slower bouncer.

Meanwhile, Padikkal joined the party on the fourth delivery of the over as the left-handed batter walked towards the off side and got under the ball before lofting it over the cover region for a stunning six. The very next delivery was sliced past the backward point for a four.

Padikkal finished the over with another boundary as he cleared his front leg and smashed it past the bowler, whose figures read 1/30 in two overs.

CSK continue poor bowling performance

With a single at the mid-wicket region, the Karnataka batter celebrated his fifty. CSK lacked a plan to bowl in the middle overs of the innings as their lengths and lines were not right against the batters, who used their power and smashed the balls at all corners of the park. Noor Ahmed was nailed for 0/49 in four overs.

Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed for 50 runs in 29 balls with the help of five boundaries and two sixes, while Tim David raced away to 28 runs in just 13 balls. Patidar was equally clinical with 40 runs in just 15 balls, thanks to five sixes and one four.
