IPL 2026: Is Shubman Gill playing in Today's DC vs GT Match 14?

On Wednesday night (April 8), Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans are facing each other at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, which is the 14th game of the IPL 2026. Before the toss, the main question for this fixture is whether the Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill is playing or not. 

Gujarat Titans have played two matches this season and have lost both. They started the season with an away defeat against the IPL 2025 runners-up Punjab Kings, where they failed to defend the 162/6, which was chased in 19.1 overs after losing seven wickets. 

In their next game, GT hosted Rajasthan Royals. While Royals scored 210/6, the hosts replied with 204/8, losing the game by just six runs. 

Shubman Gill led Titans in their season opener. However, he missed out on their second game of the season, which was against Rajasthan Royals, where the Afghan star Rashid Khan led the team.

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill is playing the DC vs GT IPL 2026 match. Talking about his absence in the last game, the reason was reported as his neck injury. During the toss of the DC vs GT match, the visiting skipper Shubman confirmed that his older neck injury had returned, but he was better for the match. After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel chose to field first.

IPL 2026 is crucial for Shubman Gill

It is a crucial IPL season for the Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill. The Indian Test and ODI captain is a strong name for both formats; however, the right-handed batter hasn't impressed with his recent T20 cricket performances. Due to slow starts, he has been dropped from the Indian team that recently defended the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at home. 

In their first game of the IPL 2026, Shubman scored 39 runs off 27 balls with six fours. After a 37-run opening partnership with Sai Sudharsan, he had a 46-run partnership for the second wicket with English star Jos Buttler.
