The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 6 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The home team's season hasn't been satisfying since they have lost their first two encounters so far. However, it's not too late in the tournament, and they still have a chance to come back. Meanwhile, PBKS are having a dream season with two consecutive wins.

The victory over CSK was a particularly key takeaway for the franchise, as they beat them in Chennai. However, KKR fans will be thrilled to know that Matheesha Pathirana has started his training and is likely to come back for the franchise soon.

Matheesha Pathirana resumes training after injury setback

KKR's star bowler Matheesha Pathirana has resumed his training at the Premadasa Stadium and is looking in shape. While he is not fully fit yet, he has started bowling in the nets, which is a positive sign for the franchise. Despite having one of the best bowling line-ups with players like Blessing Muzarbani, Varun Chakaravarthy, and others, they have lost matches.

KKR are having a tough time out there, but they still have a good chance to qualify from here. The batting needs to be strong, and the bowlers need to get breakthroughs. The over-dependency on Muzarbani might not work out for the franchise in the long run. They will be waiting for Pathirana as he is an incredible bowler at the death overs and can pick up wickets easily. KKR brought him for INR 18 crores in the IPL 2026 auction.
