The five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians started this season with a comfortable six-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders at home, which was MI's first season-opener victory since 2013. However, in their next two games, MI lost against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals by six wickets and 27 runs, respectively.
The defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first two games of the season before losing their last one. While RCB thrashed SunRisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings by six wickets and 43 runs, respectively, they lost their last fixture against Rajasthan Royals by six wickets.
