The Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians (CSK vs MI) match has been scheduled for the 44th game of the IPL 2026. MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk, Chennai) is hosting this fixture on Saturday evening (May 2). While it is the fifth match at this venue, both teams are playing their ninth match of the season, as they are meeting for the second time this season. 

Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings are in the seventh position in the IPL 2026 points table with six points after eight games, recording three wins and five losses. In their last five games, CSK fought hard, as they won three games and lost twice.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians, the first team to win five IPL trophies, are struggling more than CSK this season. MI are in ninth position in the same points table with four points after recording two wins and six defeats. Despite starting the season with a win, MI then suffered six losses in seven games, including currently running with a two-match losing streak. 

It is the second IPL 2026 meeting between these two successful rivals. Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai hosted their previous meeting, which was the 33rd game of the season. After CSK scored 207/6 in 20 overs, thanks to the opener Sanju Samson's unbeaten hundred (101*), MI were bundled out for only 104 runs as CSK claimed their record winning margin by securing a 103-run victory.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bat first. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also confirmed that he would choose to bat first if he won the toss.
