Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) came into their second encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on the back of their opening defeat against the Delhi Capitals at home, and hope to open their account away from home.

The LSG captain, Rishabh Pant, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface which he reckoned would go slow in the second innings, but had full faith in their strong batting department. It was important for them to pick early wickets and send back the two aggressive SRH openers early in the innings.

Mohammad Shami foxes Abhishek Sharma with excellent field placement

The first ball was a gentle, loose delivery that Travis Head failed to tickle down the leg side as the southpaw nearly survived a run-out. On the second ball, he was turned to the on-side with a good length delivery at the stumps. It was a fuller yet short length on the pads as Head got an inside edge.

On the fourth delivery of the opening over, Head played away from his body and got an inside edge onto the pad as it rolled to the off-side. Abhishek Sharma, on his very first ball, leaned across and jammed the right-arm pacer into the on-side.

That was when a great fielding set-up was made. They wanted the good over to end on a high note, for which Pant took the slip out and brought the third man a little finer towards the wicket-keeper. Abhishek went hard on the drive against the slower ball and got a thick edge as the ball looped to the right of short third.

Manimaran Siddarth dived across and got both hands under and held on with ease. Shami, now, has two dismissals against Abhishek, who has a poor strike rate of under 80 with 20 runs in 26 balls in six innings.

LSG stuns SRH with early wickets

On his first delivery of the second over, Mohammed Shami bagged another massive wicket of Head for seven runs. The cutter came angled across the southpaw and undid Head completely with the lack of pace as the Australian batter was through with the shot early and spooned it in the air towards the mid-off region as Aiden Markram drove forward to complete the simple catch.

Prince Yadav, in his first over, went through the defense of opposition captain, Ishan Kisan, who was drawn into an ambitious drive before the late swing saw the ball bursting through the bad-pad gap and knocking out the off-stump.

Brief Scores: SRH 35/4 (Liam Livingstone 14, Mohammad Shami 2/9) vs LSG
