The Gujarat Titans (GT) came into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with two successive defeats against the Punjab Kings and the Rajasthan Royals before they headed to the Arun Jaitley Stadium for another away fixture against the Delhi Capitals (DC). It was important for the Shubman Gill-led side to open their account with a victory.

Meanwhile, the Capitals won two successive clashes against the Lucknow Super Giants and the Mumbai Indians and looked hot favorites to continue the same dominance. Their captain, Axar Patel, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface which he thought would be better during the chase.

Mukesh Kumar removes Sai Sudharsan in IPL 2026

Sai Sudharsan was in good touch with a strong fifty at home against the Rajasthan Royals. He started from where he left off by leaning across and letting the ball from Mukesh Kumar come to him, and then clipping it past the mid-wicket region for a boundary. On the third ball of the over, Shubman Gill powered the drive past the backward point for the same result.

Sudharsan continued the same color with another boundary on the first delivery of the second over as he clubbed the over-pitched delivery wide of off stump across the fast outfield. But Mukesh Kumar had the last laugh.

After a wide to start the third over, the Bengal pacer sent back Sudharsan for 12 runs with the help of two boundaries. It was a short delivery that pushed back the southpaw, whose feet hardly moved as he rocked back on the cut. By the time his bat came down, he dragged an inside edge on the stumps.

GT start strongly despite losing Sudharsan early

Jos Buttler had a nightmarish time in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Even in the first couple of games, he didn’t find runs around the park. But against Delhi, he looked in a different touch and made his way to 35 runs in just 14 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes.

Gill was slow with seven runs at run-a-ball as the Titans reached 62 in the fifth over. Their partnership of 43 runs came in just 16 balls.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing) GT- 77/1 (Jos Buttler 51*, Mukesh Kumar 1/43) vs DC
