IPL 2026: Nuwan Thushara files lawsuit against Sri Lanka Cricket over NOC denial

Nuwan Thushara, a fast bowler from Sri Lanka, has filed a lawsuit against Sri Lanka Cricket because they refused to grant him a No Objection Certificate which he needed to play in IPL 2026.

Why Nuwan Thushara moved court against Sri Lanka Cricket

Thushara's main argument depends on his contract situation. The 31-year-old claims that his central contract with SLC ended on March 31, 2026, and he had already informed the board of his decision not to renew it.

The pacer states that SLC needs to grant him an NOC after he finishes his central contract period. He explained that missing the IPL would cost him financial losses because it stands as one of the top earning T20 leagues throughout the globe.

The right-arm quick received an official NOC denial on March 24 after he made multiple requests through both verbal and written channels. The scheduled court proceedings for April have created a delay that will most likely prevent him from participating in the initial part of IPL 2026.

SLC’s NOC policy and fitness criteria explained

The newly established fitness rules which SLC implemented will determine their decision-making process. The new system requires players to achieve specific minimum standards which include five different athletic tests that measure their endurance and sprinting and agility and body composition abilities.
