Rohit Sharma has already missed three matches in the IPL 2026 season because of an injury while batting against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In place of Rohit, the Mumbai Indians (MI) took a bet on the young batter Danish Malewar, but he failed to impress. Quinton de Kock, who smashed a century against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), also dropped his form.
Mumbai Indians' chances to qualify for the play-offs are currently not too bright as they have managed to win only one game in their last 5 matches. They still have a thin chance to confirm a berth in the play-offs. Ahead of their next IPL 2026 fixture, which will be against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, a fresh update on Rohit Sharma has arrived. If things go in the right direction, then the opener will feature against the Pat Cummins-led side.
When will Rohit Sharma make a comeback in IPL 2026?
Without the service of Sharma, the top order of MI mostly remains underperforming. Ryan Rickelton, who performed significantly well in the previous season, has also been out of touch since the beginning of the ongoing IPL 2026. At this point, when the team is in a very unfamiliar situation, MI fans have crossed their fingers for a quick comeback of the former captain.
According to a report published by SportsTak, Sharma is likely to play against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 29 at the Wankhede Stadium. The batter has done all the training and drills without complaining about any discomfort or pain.
“Indian skipper has been going to the gym without any problem. MI physios believe that the star opener could be available for the clash against SRH. So far in the rehabilitation, Rohit has not complained about any pain or discomfort,” the report claimed.

Mumbai Indians to change their captain?
“The Source also added that the ongoing speculations about a change in captaincy are totally baseless,” it also added.
The rumours about a possible change in captaincy started to surface on the internet because of the poor performance of the team under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. The seam bowling all-rounder himself is not in form, both with the bat and with the ball.
A large portion of MI fans have already shouted to remove Hardik Pandya from captaincy and hand the captain’s job to Rohit Sharma. But as the report claims, the management will continue trusting in their present skipper.
Rohit Sharma looked sharp in training
In a separate report, it is claimed that Rohit Sharma joined the practice season at the Wankhede Stadium after returning from Jamnagar, Gujarat. The opener looked in good touch in the nets and played shots with an aggressive approach. Along with the other regular batters of the team,
Rohit reharshed under the floodlight as well. Mumbai Indians, from their official social media account, shared a video capturing some moments of their training. “The boys are back at training after a short break, and so is the,” the caption of the video post reads.
