The Gujarat Titans (GT), who started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) with a defeat away from home, returned to their den- the Narendra Modi Stadium- with a hope to open their account, but hardly imagined being put under immense pressure at the start.

Titans missed their designated captain, Shubman Gill, who got up in the morning with a muscle spasm as Rashid Khan stood at the toss, being the stand-in leader of the side. That was not a good start, while the RR won the toss and decided to bat first on a surface they felt would get slow in the second innings.

Mohammad Siraj injured himself while fielding in GT vs RR clash

It was the first delivery of the fifth over when Rashid brought Ashok Sharma into the attack, having been thumped for 44 runs without any success in four overs. It was a rapid delivery as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi threw his bat at it and got a thick outside edge which went towards the slip region.

The wicket-keeper, Jos Buttler, dived full length and got his left hand to it, which divided the line of the ball as it went wide of the short third man. Sai Sudharsan was behind the ball, but Mohammed Siraj rolled over the ball, rushing from the point region.

Siraj, with a slide, hurt his groin area as the physio took him off the sidelines for some treatment. On the next delivery, Sooryavanshi timed the short ball for a massive six.

Both the left-handed opening batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi, went after the pacers around the park. The latter dashed Siraj for two boundaries in the opening over before managing to clear the mid-off region against Kagiso Rabada to see the ball running away to the fence.

Yashasvi Jasiwal joined the party from the other end. He lofted the pitched-up delivery from Siraj over the covers for a clinical six before nailing the short ball from the Hyderabad-born over the cover for a boundary.

The Rajasthan Royals finished with 69/0 in their six overs before Rashid drew first blood, sending back Sooryavanshi for 31 runs in just 18 balls, scoring five boundaries and one six. That settled the home side a little bit.

Brief Scores: RR 126/2 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 55, Kagiso Rabada 1/23) vs GT
