The comparison between the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) continues to get another chapter in history, as many players have been asked to make comments on that. In the new chapter, Islamabad United’s assistant coach, Jacob Oram, dealt with the same question.

After the first few weeks of the IPL, Rawalpindiz are at the bottom of the points table with five successive defeats at a net run rate of -1.864. Meanwhile, the Peshawar Zalmi are at the top of the points table with four victories in five encounters at a net run rate of +3.103. The only missed chance for them came as the abandoned contest against Islamabad.

Jacob Oram reacts to PSL and IPL comparison question

Jacob Oram struggled to hold back his emotions when asked about Rillie Rossouw’s recent remark, where he felt that the IPL would be ‘more like a movie than actual cricket’ when asked to make a comparison with the PSL.

The moment came during the post-match presentation after Marnus Labuschagne-led Hyderabad Kingsmen defeated United by six wickets in Karachi. Reacting to the question, Oram laughed and asked the reporter a question back before making a balanced answer on the comparison.

“They’re similar tournaments, but they’re very different. That’s twice as long as the IPL. I haven’t coached in the IPL. I played in the IPL, and that was a long time ago, and it has grown into a bit of a behemoth. This is my first opportunity in the PSL, and I’m loving it. The group — from staff to players — has been so welcoming. We are well looked after, well catered for. So far, so good here.” Oram commented on his experience of PSL.

The former New Zealand player also admitted that he would have preferred fuller stadiums for a better atmosphere. The fans, notably, have been locked out from coming to the ground due to the current political situation.

“I’d love to have crowds here, for that vibe and atmosphere.” Oram acknowledged the reasons behind their absence.

While more comparisons will be made in the future between the two leagues, Oram’s candid and humorous response has summed up the mood and respect for both leagues.
