Australian and Punjab Kings's (PBKS) star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been handed over a fine of 25% and one demerit point for breaching the IPL's code of conduct during PBKS's home game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday (April 8) night at the New PCA Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Punjab.

The exact nature of the offense Maxwell did is yet not clear. In an official statement, IPL has informed, "Glenn Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offense under article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the match) and accepted the match referee's sanction." Punjab Kings, at their home ground, defeated Chennai Super Kings by an 18-run margin. Batting first, PBKS edged past 200 to put 219 on the scoreboard in exchange for 6 wickets. Young Indian opener Priyansh Arya turned out to be the star attraction of the match as he played a 42-ball 103-run innings—a record-breaking century in the history of IPL by an uncapped Indian cricketer.

Maxwell, on the other hand, had to return to the pavilion only scoring after a run, dismissed by CSK veteran Ravichandran Ashwin, a lightning-fast caught and bowl. The Aussie all-rounder contributed better with the ball than the bat in this game. It was Maxwell who took the wicket of dangerous-looking Rachin Ravindra. Ravindra misjudged the third ball of the seventh over and ended up stumped out in the hands of PBKS keeper Prabhsimran Singh.

The New Zealand international went for a well-played 36 off 23 balls powered by four boundaries. Maxwell bowled only for 2 overs, and these couple of overs were right for CSK batters in terms of rotating strikes. The right-handed all-rounder restricted his economy rate only to 5.50.

There were only 18 runs in between Chennai Super Kings and their second victory of their IPL 2025 campaign.
