Before the beginning of the new season, the IPL has announced some exciting news for fans. This time, the IPL is going to introduce its own fantasy cricket game. This is a new way in which fans can stay connected with the tournament.
This decision has been taken after the government banned online money gaming platforms in 2025. This was done by the government in order to control the risks associated with these platforms. Problems like addiction, financial, and mental health issues were some of the primary reasons behind the banning of these platforms. There have been many reports highlighting the ill effects of these games.
India was also one of the biggest markets for online fantasy and gaming platforms. Millions of users were involved, and many faced financial problems over time. After the ban, fans were unsure about fantasy cricket options for IPL. Now, with the official IPL fantasy league, the board has provided a safer alternative for users.
IPL 2026 Fantasy League Rules and Main Features
The IPL has introduced clear rules to make the fantasy league simple and fair for all users. One key rule says, "Users joining the IPL Fantasy League Game before Match 1 can make 160 transfers until Match 80 (Total no. of matches - official announcement for now), which is the end of the league stage." This gives users enough flexibility to manage their teams during the tournament.

- Before Match 1 starts, users can make unlimited changes to their teams.
- Users joining before Match 1 can make 160 transfers until Match 80.
- Users joining later in the tournament will also get 160 transfers until Match 80.
- Between the league stage and Qualifier 1, users can again make unlimited transfers.
- Between Qualifier 1 and the Final, users can make up to 10 transfers.
- Captain and Vice-Captain can be changed anytime during the tournament.
- Transfers made during a match will apply only to the next match.
- Only transfers made before a match starts will count for that match.
Apart from the rules, the fantasy league also provides various other exciting features. The users will be able to select 11 players, and there will be no impact player rule. The captain of the team will be rewarded with 2x points, whereas the vice-captain will be rewarded with 1.5x points.
There will be free contests, transfer, booster, and a wildcard feature as well. The users will be able to change the teams before every match, which will give them a sense of control. The most exciting update is that IPL 2026 will have a total of 84 matches, which will extend the season.
