Mike Hesson elucidates the challenging circumstances behind Yuzvendra Chahal’s release from RCB and the strategic considerations during the IPL auction.

Former director of cricket operations for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mike Hesson, recently disclosed the rationale behind the departure of Yuzvendra Chahal, the 33-year-old wrist spinner who was released by the team following the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, marking the end of his seven-year tenure with the three-time finalists.
In response to queries about the communication with Chahal post his release, Hesson clarified that he had engaged in discussions with the bowler. He further explained that RCB had opted to retain only three players for the 2022 season with the intention of reacquiring both Harshal Patel and Chahal during the auction.
