The much-anticipated schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has been revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), putting an end to speculations about matches being staged abroad. In a move that reaffirms the league’s commitment to its home turf, all 74 matches of IPL 2024 are slated to take place within the boundaries of India.

Ahmedabad and Chennai emerge as the focal points

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, will host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator on May 21 and 22 respectively. Meanwhile, the action will shift to the iconic Chepauk stadium in Chennai for the Qualifier 2 and the grand finale on May 24 and 26.

The decision to select Ahmedabad and Chennai as playoff venues comes as no surprise, given their significance in the IPL landscape. Last year’s finalists, Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, see their home turfs rewarded with the opportunity to host these critical matches. Chennai, fondly known as the city of champions, will also have the honor of hosting the final, adding another layer of excitement for cricket enthusiasts.

The second phase of IPL 2024 is going to start

With the initial schedule already announced for the first 21 matches, the BCCI seamlessly transitions into the second phase of IPL 2024, beginning on April 8. The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, will kickstart this leg with a night game against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk stadium.

Earlier speculations about a potential stint in the UAE were put to rest by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, reaffirming the board’s commitment to staging the entire tournament in India. This decision, amidst the backdrop of upcoming General Elections spanning from April 19 to June 1, underscores the meticulous planning undertaken to navigate potential overlaps and ensure a smooth tournament operation.

The schedule also reflects a nod to traditional secondary centers, with Dharamsala and Guwahati securing their spots on the IPL map. Dharamsala will witness Punjab Kings in action on May 5 and May 9 against Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru respectively. Meanwhile, Guwahati, serving as Rajasthan Royals’ preferred second base, will host matches against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 15 and May 19, with the latter clash marking the end of the league phase.

As excitement builds up for yet another thrilling edition of IPL, fans can look forward to witnessing top-tier cricketing action unfold across the length and breadth of India.
