The BCCI is looking to restart IPL 2025 from May 16 and could extend the tournament till May 30. The remaining matches are expected to be held in just three cities Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. A new schedule will be shared with all the teams by Sunday night.
Since the IPL was paused for a week, the board feels they now need a few extra days to finish the tournament. That’s why the final might be held on May 30 instead of May 25. A BCCI official said, “We lost one week, so we are looking to wrap up the IPL by May 30. The new schedule will be sent to teams tonight.”
The BCCI has told all teams, except Punjab Kings, to reach their new venues by Tuesday so that matches can start again by Friday. Teams have also been asked to inform their overseas players and help them return to India. Most foreign players and support staff had flown back home after the suspension last week.
With 12 matches still to be played, and at least six days needed for the playoffs and final, the BCCI wants to finish everything in two weeks. To do that, more double-headers (two matches in a day) are being planned.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said they are trying to resume the league as soon as possible, especially after India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire on Saturday. “Now that the situation has improved, we are discussing with teams, broadcasters, and others to see how quickly we can restart. We also need to talk to the government before finalising anything,” Dhumal said.

The board had stopped the IPL last Friday because of border tensions. Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad were picked as safer places to host the remaining matches, but the final decision will be made after talking to the government.
Last Thursday, the match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in Dharamsala was cancelled due to safety concerns after the floodlights went off. Dhumal said it was a safety measure and taken as a precaution.
