Twitter reacts: India's maiden T20I defeat against Ireland — IRE vs IND 1st T20I 2026
The fans on Twitter have reacted to India's maiden defeat against Ireland during the first T20I of the two-match series in Belfast under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.

The two-match T20I series against Ireland was supposed to be a good practice for the Indian side ahead of their five-match T20I series against England. But the former shocked the current T20 World champions with a 34-run defeat, which ended up being Ireland’s very first T20I win over this opposition.
It wasn’t a fairytale start either for the new T20I captain of the blue brigade, Shreyas Iyer, who also couldn’t do well with the bat in the 183-run chase as the visiting side, despite making a solid start with the bat, were bundled out for just 148 in 18.5 overs.
How Ireland shocked the world champions by 34 runs in Belfast — IRE vs IND 1st T20I 2026
The Indian captain, Shreyas Iyer, won the toss and decided to invite the home side to bat. That turned out to be the right decision as Ireland lost their first three wickets for just 30 runs in 3.4 overs and soon were reduced to 51/4 in 7.1 overs.
But the captain Lorcan Tucker made them recover with a decent knock of 50 runs off 36 balls at a strike rate of 138.89, thanks to five boundaries and a couple of sixes. But the most vital knock came from Gareth Delany, who slammed 49 runs in 32 balls to shoulder Ireland to 182/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

This was still expected to be an easy chase for the blue brigade, who, however, kept losing wickets in clusters from one end. Abhishek Sharma celebrated a fine knock of 50 runs off just 20 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes.
But they lacked other contributors and eventually were bundled out for 148 runs to lose the contest by 34 runs. Both Matthew Holland and Matthew Humpheres picked up three wickets each.
