As the opening ODI of the three-match series between India and West Indies is played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, the Indian side for the Asian Games, including Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, remained in Japan ahead of their first game on September 28.

Both players were spotted over a cricket stream. But the twist of the story was that it wasn’t the actual action but a gameplay simulation, as their candid reaction went viral on social media platforms.

India’s Asian Games 2026 campaign begins on September 28, when they will take on Afghanistan during the second quarter-final of the competition at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin. Now, in Japan, the ODI game of the Blue Brigade against the Shai Hope-led side was neither streamed nor telecast.

In that case, Ishan and Abhishek Sharma enjoyed a gameplay simulation of the clash with the scorecard being visible on the television. Abhishek was even surprised at the bowling action of Gurnoor Brar in the game, as their funny reaction caught social media attention quickly.

The duo also shared a laugh over Prasidh Krishna’s bowling action from the gameplay, proving that even the international players aren’t immune to the obsession with gameplay video on the internet.

India made a solid start in the chase against West Indies

India’s captain, Shubman Gill, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface, which was expected to get better in the second innings during the chase. However, this decision seemed to be wrong after the 135-run opening partnership between half-centurion John Campbell and Justin Greaves, who smashed 101 runs off just 108 balls.

The hosts, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s fine spell of 4/40 in 10 overs, pulled the run rate back in the middle overs. However, Amir Jangaoo’s unbeaten 58 runs off 43 balls at a strike rate of 134.88 shouldered them to 295/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

India also made a solid start in the chase as they reached 72 runs without any damage in the 11th over. Rohit Sharma and Gill seemed to be at ease against all the Caribbean bowlers.
