The only silent overs for the Indian side in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad were the first couple of overs. But since then, first Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, and then the latter with Ishan Kishan, drilled the opposition bowlers right, left, and center around the park.

Lockie Ferguson, who leaked 24 runs in his very first over of the innings, came back into the attack to bowl the 12th over of the innings as the Indian batters put the pacer under pressure from the very first ball of the innings. On the very first ball, Sanju Samson, who was troubled in playing the pull shot, belted the short ball over the backward square leg.

Samson, who celebrated his 50 in the final off just 33 balls, becomes the third player after Shahid Afridi and Virat Kohli to celebrate 50+ scores in the semifinal and final of a T20 World Cup edition. He went under the second ball of Ferguson’s over and smacked it straight towards the sightscreen.

After he took a single, Samson’s partner from the other end, Ishan Kishan, got his front leg out of the way and made a real smack to go for a massive six against the slot delivery as the Kiwi pacer leaked 43 runs for the loss of one wicket in just 10 balls.

The over finished as Samson backed away and used the underarm to hit the short ball over the bowler’s head for a strong boundary. He conceded 48 runs in his two overs, which is the most by a bowler in the first couple of overs in a spell during the T20 World Cups.

India marked their way to 191/1 in just 14 overs as Samson reached 88 runs in 44 balls with the help of five boundaries and eight sixes, while Ishan Kishan drilled 43 runs in 20 balls with the help of three fours and as many sixes.

Brief Scores: India 204/4 (Sanju Samson 89, Abhishek Sharma 52, James Neesham 3/13) vs New Zealand.
