Virender Sehwag became the second player to score a double century in ODI cricket on this day ten years ago.
At the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, Sehwag scored 219 runs against the West Indies. As a consequence, India scored 418/5 in fifty overs with the batsman’s 219 runs, which included 41 fours and seven sixes.
The match was won by India by 153 runs. Throughout his career, Sehwag played 251 one-day internationals and 104 test matches for India, scoring 8,273 and 8,586 runs, respectively. The first time he scored a double ton was against Australia in 2013. In 2014 and 2017, he was able to achieve the same feat against Sri Lanka. Also in 2014, Rohit recorded a 264-run knock against Sri Lanka in an ODI, which is the highest individual score in ODIs. If we look at the past performances, in 2008, Sachin Tendulkar became the first player on earth to score a double century in an ODI as he achieved that feat against South Africa at Gwalior. ODIs have been the setting for three double centuries for Rohit Sharma.
As for the longer format of the game, the Delhi-based batsman scored two triple hundreds for India. The individual score of 200 has only been achieved eight times by batsmen in ODIS, making it one of the most impressive performances ever.
