James Neesham took three key wickets in the T20 World Cup final, helping New Zealand fight back after India’s strong batting start at Ahmedabad.

India posted a huge 255/5 while batting first at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson all scored half-centuries. This was the highest team score ever in a T20 World Cup final. Now, the New Zealand national cricket team must chase a record total to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 title.
Abhishek gave a fast start and scored 52 runs from 21 balls. His innings had six fours and three sixes. After him, Samson played a strong anchor role and scored 89 runs from 46 balls. Kishan also played attacking cricket and scored 54 runs from 25 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes before being caught off the bowling of James Neesham.
The 16th over changed the game slightly in New Zealand’s favour. James Neesham bowled a brilliant spell and took three wickets, giving only one run.

Neesham Shines With Three Wickets in T20 World Cup Final
James Neesham was the best bowler for the New Zealand national cricket team in the final. He took three important wickets and helped New Zealand fight back after India made a fast start.
Neesham first got the big wicket of Sanju Samson, who was batting well on 89 runs from 46 balls. Samson hit five fours and eight sixes before he was caught by a substitute fielder off Neesham’s bowling.
Next, Neesham removed Ishan Kishan after he scored 54 runs from 25 balls. Kishan reached his half-century but was caught by Mark Chapman as Neesham struck again to slow India’s scoring.
Neesham also dismissed India captain Suryakumar Yadav for zero, with the batter caught by Rachin Ravindra. His wickets helped New Zealand regain control late in the innings.
Earlier, Indian team smashed 18 sixes, the second most by a team in T20 World Cup history. India also hit 37 boundaries, which is the joint second most in the tournament, matching their semi-final match against England cricket team at Wankhede Stadium.
