The fourth match of The Hundred 2025 was played at Edgbaston, where Birmingham Phoenix faced Trent Rockets in their first game of the season. Phoenix had big names like Ben Duckett, Liam Livingstone, and the Kiwi fast-bowling trio of Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Adam Milne.
The Rockets came with Joe Root opening under captain David Willey, backed by Lockie Ferguson’s pace and Akeal Hosein’s spin. Phoenix won the toss and decided to bat, thinking the pitch would slow down later. Phoenix had a poor start. Duckett fell for a duck while trying a reverse scoop, and Will Smeed (1) and Aneurin Donald also went cheaply. Joe Clarke scored 29 from 34 balls, and captain Livingstone added 39 from 30 balls with one four and three sixes.
Dan Mousley hit a quick 18 off 10 balls at the end. Ferguson was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 20 runs. Phoenix ended on 122/6. Tom Banton got the Rockets going with 43 runs from 29 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes.
Southee removed Root for 6, but Rehan Ahmed, promoted to number three, made MAR25 from 16 balls. Stoinis and Max Holden kept things moving, with Holden finishing unbeaten on 22 from 13 balls. Benny Howell bowled well for Phoenix, taking 2/25, but the Rockets won by six wickets with 22 balls to spare.
