Akash Deep's sister, Akhand Jyoti Singh, offered an emotional reaction to her brother's stellar performance at Edgbaston. The pacer donated his match-winning spell against England to Jyoti, who is currently fighting cancer. In an interview with Aajtak, Jyoti said she was happy, proud and also noted Akash’s hard work and effort since it has brought joy and happiness to the family when they need it most. She mentioned that his dedication and success on the field meant the world to her and uplifted everyone at home.
Jyoti also revealed that her cancer is at stage three and she requires at least six more months of treatment. She called Akash before the England series and told him not to lose sight of representing the country, and also not to worry too much about her health condition. Her words were a source of strength for Akash and he took that strength with him to the field.The heartwarming bond between the siblings has touched fans across the cricketing community.
"It is a matter of pride for India - he has taken 10 wickets. Before the England tour, we went to meet him at the airport. I told him, 'I’m absolutely fine, don’t worry about me, just do well for the country.' I am in the third stage (of cancer), and the doctor has said the treatment will go on for six more months, after which we’ll see. It makes me very happy when Akash takes wickets. Whenever he gets a wicket, all of us start clapping and cheering so loudly that the neighbours in the colony ask what has happened!," Akash Deep's sister said in an exclusive interview to India Today.

During the 2025 Indian Premier League season, Akash Deep’s sister, Akhand Jyoti Singh, was admitted to the hospital for cancer treatment. Despite his demanding schedule with the Lucknow Super Giants, Akash made it a priority to visit her regularly and support her through the tough times. Jyoti shared that her brother’s presence brought her comfort, even as he balanced professional commitments. Akash featured in six matches during the season, managing to pick up three wickets while juggling cricket and his sister’s health battle.
“When the IPL was going on and he was playing for the Lucknow team, I was admitted to the hospital for cancer treatment. Even then, he would come meet me either before or after the matches,” Akash Deep's sister said.
Akash Deep's sister revealed that she broke into tears after speaking to him on a video call following India’s historic first-ever Test win at Edgbaston. She shared that they had spoken twice on video call and once again at 5 a.m. the next morning. During their conversation, Akash reassured her not to worry, saying that the entire country stood with them. He also admitted that he could no longer hold back his emotions and had finally let them out after the match.
She expressed how emotional and proud she felt during their interaction, calling her brother a rare gem. She added that Akash always keeps the family involved in every decision and constantly offers his support. With their father and eldest brother no longer alive, Akash has taken over the responsibility of managing the household. His success on the field, despite personal challenges, has brought strength and pride to the entire family.
“After the match ended, we spoke twice over video call, and again at 5 a.m. in the morning. Akash told me, ‘Don’t worry, the whole country is with us.’ He said, ‘I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I had been trying to, but yesterday I just couldn’t stop myself. Such a brother is rare. He helps us a lot and doesn’t do anything without talking to us. He shares everything with the family. Since our father and eldest brother are no longer with us, he is the one now managing the whole household,” she added.
