Nearly 24 years after the end of the clash between India and Pakistan in the tri-series with the West Indies in 1991 at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah, the reports have claimed that the Indian captain, Kapil Dev, was engaged in a match-fixing scandal when they were chasing 258 runs in the second innings.

The incident happened just after eight years when they beat the mighty West Indies side during the final of the 1983 Prudential Cup at the iconic Lord’s, which changed the picture of their game on the world cricketing map.

Explosive report revives shocking claims around Kapil Dev and the 1991 India vs Pakistan clash

During the encounter when India was chasing 258 runs against the Imran Khan-led side, the blue brigade was in a great position. But suddenly, Mohammad Azharuddin and Kapil Dev got out for ducks. After this, the Indian batters started to find it tough in the middle watching the ball due to the bad light.

Even the commentators were shocked and criticized the conditions. If India had walked off, they could have been declared winners under the revised system. But Manoj Prabhakar and Sanjay Manjrekar were reportedly ready to walk out, but the team management asked them to continue. India eventually lost the contest by four runs.

Just after the end of the tournament, Kapil bought a BMW car. At that time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wasn’t strong financially, and when Kapil was asked about it, he claimed it was a gift for a modeling assignment.
