Latest fitness update of Shubman Gill.

India’s ODI and Test captain, Shubman Gill, who missed the second Test of the recent South Africa series in Guwahati after picking up a neck injury during the opening contest at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and was out of the three-match ODI series against the Proteas at home, is set to make his return at the BCCI Centre of Excellence from December 01 in Bengaluru.

Gill was scheduled to reach Bengaluru roughly a week before the T20I series against the Proteas. It has been reported that the 26-year-old had physiotherapy sessions in Mumbai before flying to Chandigarh and spent some time at home. He is flying to Bengaluru on Monday as the recovery has been on track, with the Indian captain not facing any issues despite the multiple flights being taken.

Gill has stayed away from the nets but is anticipated to pick up the bat in the upcoming days under the watch of the BCCI medical team at the Centre of Excellence. While he traveled to Guwahati for the second game, the Punjab-born wasn’t able to gain the required match fitness for the clash.

Gill could make his return to the game through the T20I series against the Proteas. He won’t look to miss the five matches, which will be crucial for the BCCI to select the 15-member squad ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, starting in the first week of February.

“There are no red flags at the moment, and he has taken multiple flights - Kolkata to Guwahati, Guwahati to Mumbai, Mumbai to Chandigarh, and now Chandigarh to Bengaluru - without any discomfort. All efforts right now are aimed at having him back on the park, but it will not be a rushed process.” The Times of India (TOI) has reported, as quoted by a private development.

“The moment he is 100% and feels ready for the grind, he will be back with the squad. He is an important all-format player, and everyone wants him to be absolutely ready.” It has been noted.
