In the very first Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026, New Zealand will meet Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, as it threatens a washout in the fixture. New Zealand finished in second spot with three wins in four clashes at a net run rate of +1.227. Meanwhile, the Kiwis are in second position with as many victories as the Kiwis got for a NRR of +0.976.

The forecast does raise a little concern for the clash as there is roughly a 75% chance of rain in Colombo on Saturday, along with an 18% probability of thunderstorms, as the evening showers remain a possibility at persistent rain on the eve of the game had already forced Pakistan to cancel its training session.

The current rules and regulations of the International Cricket Council for the 2026 T20 World Cups in the Super 8 stage suggest that there is no reserve day for this fixture, as a minimum of five overs per side must be completed for a result to be declared.

As per the current weather at one in the afternoon in Colombo, the sun was out, which brings excitement among both the teams and their fans who put up a fight and contest in the field between bat and ball rather than sharing one point each after a washout.

It has been reported in a few patches of Colombo that the rain is a persistent member and it will continue to pour during the first half of the game in the evening if not more as per the latest forecast, which suggests that the game between Pakistan and New Zealand can be short in game if not washed out.

But the best thing about the ground is that it can dry out pretty quickly, which will create more time for the officials to start the game once the rain settles down late in the night. Colombo will host its second Super 8 clash on February 25 between the Blackcaps and Sri Lanka.
