Know Shreyas Iyer's current injury status.

India’s vice-captain of the ODI format, Shreyas Iyer, has been admitted to a Sydney hospital and is currently under the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after he suffered internal bleeding, which resulted from the rib cage injury sustained during the third fixture of the three-match series against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Iyer ran backward and grabbed a fabulous catch at the backward point region to dismiss the left-handed batter, Alex Carey, as he appeared to have hurt his left rib cage in the process. The Mumbai-born was rushed to the hospital soon after returning to the dressing room on October 25. India won the chase comfortably without the veteran by nine wickets and with 12 overs to spare.

“Shreyas has been in the ICU for the past couple of days. After the reports came in, internal bleeding was detected, and he had to be admitted immediately. He will remain under observation for anywhere between two and seven days, depending on recovery, as one needs to stop the spreading of infection due to bleeding. The PTI news was quoted as saying on Iyer’s injury status.

Shreyas Iyer admitted to Sydney Hospital after internal bleeding

Iyer is expected to be out of action for the next three weeks, but the recovery period may be longer. He is expected to stay in the Sydney hospital for a week, with his parents being called to be with him. The Mumbai batter will travel back to India after being declared fit, while he isn’t part of the T20I squad.

“The team doctor and physio didn't take any chances and took him to the hospital immediately. Things are stable now, but it could have been fatal. He's a tough lad and should be fine soon. Since there has been internal bleeding, he will certainly need more time to recover, and at this point, it's difficult to put a definite timeline on his return to competitive cricket. The medical team addressed.

The right-handed batter has clubbed 2917 runs in 67 innings of the 50-over format at an average of 47.81 and a strike rate of 99.01 with the help of five centuries and 23 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 128 runs.
