While the India Women's national cricket team is ready to begin the journey in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 as the hosts, the team has gotten a new selection committee chairman. Amita Sharma has replaced Neetu David in the Chairperson role for the women's selection committee of the Indian cricket team. 

Who is Amita Sharma? The new India Women's Selection Committee Chairperson

Amita Sharma was a former Indian cricketer who played 116 Women's ODIs, 41 Women's T20Is, and five Women's Tests between 2002 and 2014. She was a right-arm medium pacer and right-handed batter. She scored 82 Women's Test runs, 926 Women's ODI runs, and 383 Women's T20I runs, including one half-century in each format. On the other hand, she also recorded five Women's Test wickets, 87 Women's ODI wickets, and 16 Women's T20I wickets. She was a crucial member of the Indian Women's team that finished as the runners-up in the Women's Cricket World Cup 2005. 

Do You Know Amita Sharma's world record?

During her international career, Amita Sharma was a part of a world record in Women's ODI cricket. In the 2012 Taunton Women's ODI, she and Gouher Sultana recorded the 58-run partnership for the 10th wicket, which was then the highest 10th wicket partnership in Women's ODI history. At present, it is the third-highest 10th-wicket partnership in Women's ODI.

Interesting connection between Neetu David and Amita Sharma

The former and present chairpersons of the women's selection committee, Neetu David and Amita Sharma, played together in 53 Women's ODIs and three Women's Tests. Both the players had important roles for India Women to reach the Final of the Women's Cricket World Cup 2005, where they finished as the runners-up. While Neetu David was the leading wicket-taker in that tournament with 20 wickets, Amita Sharma was the second-leading wicket-taker in that tournament with 14 wickets.

  • Ms. Amita Sharma (Chairperson);
  • Ms. Shyama Dey
  • Ms. Sulakshana Naik
  • Ms. Jaya Sharma
  • Ms. Sravanthi Naidu

Except for Shyama Dey, who is continuing her role in the committee, all four others have been newly inducted into the committee who are Amita Sharma, Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma, and Sravanthi Naidu.
