Know the time, date, and venue for the announcement of the T20 World Cup 2026 squad, which is going to take place in the first week of February in India and Sri Lanka, with India facing USA in their opening clash.
With the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 done and dusted, the focus has shifted back to the upcoming 2026 season of the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. There is still some time for the competition, which is scheduled to begin from February 07 and run till March 08, where the Blue Brigade will be entering as the defending champions for the second time.
The event is taking place as the head of the selectors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Ajit Agarkar, will announce the squad for the event on December 20 at 1 p.m. at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. This means it will also be the same squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series at home against New Zealand.

Generally, a team will need to announce its squad at least a month before the start of the World Cup, which, for this edition, happens to be January 07. But the Indian side doesn’t have any game between December 20 and the third week of January in the shortest format.
India to announce T20 World Cup 2026 squad on December 20
This has led them to the decision of announcing the squad as the defending champions are unlikely to make any massive changes in the squad, unless a last-minute injury arises. Along with Agarkar, India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is also expected to be present during the press conference.
Under the leadership of Suryakumar, India hasn’t lost a single T20I series, including the ongoing one against South Africa at home, which they were leading by a 2-1 margin, heading into the fifth clash of the event at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India will be a little concerned with their vice-captain, Shubman Gill’s form.
In the bowling department, they are fully sorted with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh being the two first-choice bowlers, with Harshit Rana being the back-up option. Among the spinners, they have the two quality spinners of the T20I format- Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.
