Lalit Modi criticizes Dream11 on Cricket Winner’s Instagram post amidst IPL 2026
The Indian businessman and the cricket administrator who was the main architect of the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the 2008 season, criticized the Dream11 on Cricket Winner's Instagram post during the IPL 2026

Lalit Modi, an Indian businessman and cricket administrator who founded, created, and served as the first Chairman and Commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2008 to the 2010 season, isn’t a massive fan of Dream11. And his recent reply on our Cricket Winner’s Instagram post has increased the trust in that thought process.
As the architect of the league, Modi played a key role in building the IPL over the years into a major global sporting brand in its early years, and as a result, its fame has reached another level. He held his position from 2005 to 2010, leveraging it to revamp the board’s finances. He was also the chairman of the Champions League from 2008 to 2010.
Lalit Modi tears apart Dream11 on CW’s Instagram post
On April Fool’s Day in 2026, the Cricket Winner put up an Instagram post from the fun engagement that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been postponed, given millions have been watching the CW posts, but no one has followed their page at all. It is reckoned that IPL 2026 would resume only when its followers increase.
In that post, L Modi has made a different comment out of context of the post. He has drilled the Dream11 for trying to change the narrative of the game, as the only thing they care about is the illegal way of the gaming product.
“Fake News by companies like @dream11 trying to change the narrative. Because all they care about is illegal gaming off the IPL.” Modi commented on the post.
He was suspended by the BCCI in 2010, following allegations of financial irregularities, corruption, and mismanagement. He was permanently banned from the cricket administration in India nearly 13 years ago by the BCCI, following a disciplinary investigation. He left India later and has since lived in London.
Dream11 and online gaming banned in India
In October 2025, Dream11 suspended all the paid fantasy contests in India to comply with the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act (PROGA) that banned all real-money online gaming nationwide. For the IPL 2026, they transitioned to a free-to-play sports entertainment, eliminating the cash prizes and related advertising.

Dream11, which runs over 90% of its revenue from the paid contests, shifted to a new model that offered merchandise and vouchers instead of money. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and several IPL sides also omitted Dream11 as a sponsor following the ban.
IPL 2026 begins with more excitement
The first two games of the IPL 2026 have seen two of its veteran players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, celebrate respective half-centuries to win the clashes for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Mumbai Indians (MI). Meanwhile, MS Dhoni missed Chennai Super Kings’ opening clash, which they lost against the Rajasthan Royals.
Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings began their IPL 2026 campaign against the Gujarat Titans in New Chandigarh with a comfortable victory as the Delhi Capitals eye the same result against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow.
