"Let’s See What…" BCCI’s Stance on PCB Head Naqvi Handing Asia Cup Trophy as India Refuses Photo Shoot with Pakistan

The usual pre-final trophy photo shoot before the India vs Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025 was reportedly cancelled because captain Suryakumar Yadav refused. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also reacted to news that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi will hand over the winner’s trophy.
The Asia Cup 2025 pre-final trophy photo shoot was scheduled on Saturday in Dubai, before the big Sunday match. But the event did not happen because of Suryakumar’s refusal. Now, both captains may pose with the Asia Cup 2025 trophy just before the final begins.
First India-Pakistan Asia Cup Final
This will be the first Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan in the 41-year history of the tournament. The 2025 edition has been very controversial and tense. It is happening just a few months after the Pahalgam terror attack. The Indian team also refused to shake hands with Pakistani players in the previous two matches.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha was asked about India’s refusal. He said it is India’s choice and the Men in Green are not bothered.
"They can do what they want. We have our protocol, and we will follow that. If they want to come, they can come. If they don’t, that is fine," Salman said at the pre-match press conference.
PCB Chief to Hand Over Trophy
PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, will give the winner’s trophy if India wins. Naqvi is known for his anti-India remarks, so it will be interesting to see if the Indian team will avoid him on stage.
The BCCI has not decided yet. The board is expected to decide closer to the final.
"As of now, information is that he would come this evening, and as ACC chairman, he will give the winner’s trophy. Let’s see what the BCCI decides," a tournament insider told PTI.
Naqvi was also recently accused of mocking India by posting a video of Cristiano Ronaldo making a jet-downing gesture.
