Abhishek Sharma, the left-handed opening batter of the Indian cricket team, has been in tremendous form during the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia down under. Heading into the fifth and final game of the series at the Gabba in Brisbane, the southpaw was on the verge of crossing a massive record in the shortest format. 

Abhishek came down the track to nail Ben Dwarshuis on the very first ball of the innings, but the ball seamed away to miss his outside edge. On the fourth ball of the over, he found the short length delivery slapped over the mid-off region for a fine boundary. Glenn Maxwell fumbled Sharma’s catch on the fifth ball as it went high in the air and had almost touched the moon.

On the third ball of the fourth over, the Punjab batter got another life in the knock. He looked to whack the ball from Nathan Ellis, but didn’t get the full elevation off the blade. Dwarshuis ran up to the ball and got to it comfortably before the hard hands saw it coming out of his hands.

On the sixth ball of the fourth over, the Punjab-born picked the bones out of the slower ball. The ball sat up from the short of a length delivery as the batter waited on his back foot and smashed the pull shot over the mid-wicket region. Abhishek becomes the second fastest in 28 innings to cross the 1000 T20I runs for India, which is second to Virat Kohli, who celebrated the record in 27 innings.

India raced their way to 52/0 in 4.5 overs, as Abhishek smacked 23 runs in 13 balls with the help of one six and one boundary. The southpaw now has bagged 1012 runs in 28 innings at an average of 37.48 and a strike rate of 189.51 with two centuries and six fifties.
