India National Cricket Team Suffers Setback: KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja Ruled Out of Second Test Against England
In a significant setback for the India National Cricket Team leading up to the second Test against England in Vizag starting from 2nd February, star players KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja will be sidelined due to injuries.
Ravindra Jadeja’s absence is attributed to a hamstring injury, while KL Rahul will miss the game due to discomfort in his right quadriceps. Both players showcased outstanding performances in the first Test in Hyderabad.
KL Rahul displayed his prowess with a remarkable innings of 86 runs in the first inning and contributed a decent 22-run knock in the second inning. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja played a pivotal role by claiming a total of 5 wickets in the match – 3 in the first inning and 2 in the second. He also emerged as the highest run-scorer for the team in the first inning with an impressive 87-run knock.
The official statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Mr. Ravindra Jadeja and Mr. KL Rahul will be absent from the second IDFC First Bank Test against England in Vizag, commencing on February 02, 2024. Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad, while Rahul reported right quadriceps pain. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring their progress.
To fill the void left by Rahul and Jadeja, the BCCI has introduced three players—Sarfaraz Khan, Saurabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar. Sarfaraz Khan will step in for KL Rahul, while Saurabh Kumar and Washington Sundar are the replacements for Ravindra Jadeja in the second Test. It is anticipated that one of them will be included in the playing XI to maintain the team’s optimal balance.
BCCI clarified, “The Men’s Selection Committee have added Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar to India’s squad. Avesh Khan will continue to travel with his Ranji Trophy team, Madhya Pradesh, and will join the Test squad if required.”
