A major update about the injury of Rishabh Pant arrived on September 20. Ahead of India's Test series against West Indies, this update came as a major blow for Indian cricket fans. According to the latest updates, the keeper-batter still has not recovered from his leg injury, which he sustained during the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy against England.

During the 5-match away Test series against England, Pant, as usual, emerged as an instrumental figure for team India. He was the vice-captain of Shubman Gill in the series. Pant was in form, getting runs, but got into trouble when he sustained multiple injuries. First, in the middle of the tour, the keeper received a finger injury while trying to stop a ball behind the stumps. That finger injury did not bother him or the team too much, as he went back on the track quickly.

In the same series, before the Oval Test, Pant injured his foot, which proved serious. The southpaw went to sweep a fast-moving full-length delivery from England pace bowler Chris Woakes. Pant missed all parts of the red ball, and it straight crashed on his foot. Due to the seriousness of the injury, the Indian team management decided to pull Pant out from the remainder of the series. Since then, he has been out of the field, under the recovery process.

Concerns over Rishabh Pant's availability for India vs West Indies Test series

It was expected that Rishabh would be absolutely fit and fine to play the upcoming India vs. West Indies 2-match Test series, which, as of now, is under uncertainty. According to the latest updates, his swelling remains a cause of concern. So, there are chances that he can miss the Test series versus the West Indies as well, which is scheduled to start from the first week of October.

BCCI has multiple backup options to fill the gap for keeper-batter. Dhruv Jurel was there in England as the second-choice wicketkeeper of the team. Later, when Pant was ruled out of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy, the team management added Narayan Jagadeesan into the squad. If Pant remains unavailable during the India vs. West Indies series, then Jurel can be the first-choice keeper of the team in the Whites.
