Massive update! Glen Maxwell joins Hyderabad in mid-way of the tournament
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell joined Hyderabad. An official announcement has been made.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell joined Hyderabad Kingsmen for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL). Hyderabad Kingsmen is one of the two new franchises that have joined the franchise league this season.
Ahead of the tournament, they have secured the signing of the Aussie star to bolster their batting power and keep the balance between the batting and bowling departments, as Maxwell can help the team with his spin bowling skills, too. On April 11, Hyderabad Kingsmen, through an official social media post, confirmed that Glenn Maxwell has joined their camp for the PSL 2026 season.
Glenn Maxwell joined the PSL 2026 team, Hyderabad Kingsmen
The all-rounder has signed with the Hyderabad Kingsmen for the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) season for a reported fee of PKR 2.34 crore. As of now, the newly added team is not in a pleasant situation in the points table. After being defeated in all four matches they have played so far, Kingsmen are in seventh position in the 8-team league with a negative net run rate of -1.588.
Under the leadership of another Australian, Marnus Labuschagne, the team lacked consistency as well as quality. Maxwell can be an immediate starter, as they have very limited numbers of proven overseas talent. Apart from Labuschagne and Kusal Perera, Hyderabad Kingsmen went mostly with local talents in their previous fixtures.
Why Glenn Maxwell is crucial for the Hyderabad Kingsmen?
In their previous match, which was against the Peshawar Zalmi, Kingsmen lost all of their wickets for only 145 runs in 18.2 overs. Perera scored a half-century, and the skipper also added some significant runs to the scoreboard, but that was not enough to post a commanding total. Zalmi successfully chased down the below-par total and claimed the match by 4 wickets.

On paper, the addition of Glenn Maxwell looks exciting and is a much-needed element for the team. However, the 37-year-old has been struggling with his form for a long time now. The middle-order batter last featured during the T20 World Cup 2026, where his performance remained far from expectations.
Due to the long-standing poor form, Cricket Australia (CA) opted him out of the latest published central contract as well. CA dropped 37-year-old Glenn Maxwell from the 2026-27 central contract list (announced April 1, 2026) primarily due to his retirement from ODIs, lack of Test involvement since 2017, and a strategic shift to prioritize multi-format players. His exclusion highlights a focus on youth for future tournaments over white-ball specialists.
Back-to-back matches for the Hyderabad Kingsmen
Meanwhile, it is going to be his debut season in the Pakistan Super League. PSL 2026 can be the best stage for Maxwell to prove he still has some gas left in his tank.
Hyderabad Kingsmen’s next match will be on April 11 against the Karachi Kings at the National Stadium Karachi. Because of the tight schedule, Kingsmen will have to play tomorrow as well, at the same venue, against the Islamabad United.
