Meditation and visualization: How Mominul gets ready when there is a long time between tests

Mominul Haque, the talented cricketer from Bangladesh, is known not only for his exceptional skills with the bat but also for his disciplined approach to the game. When faced with a long gap between Test matches, Mominul utilizes the power of meditation and visualization to stay mentally and physically prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

“I think the last one (gap of 26 innings without century) was more painful,” Mominul told reporters after the day’s play.

“I played the way I always play Test cricket, there was not much change technically since you can’t change something in a week or two and apply it in a Test. I stayed within my strengths,” he said.

Mominul added that he doesn’t grumble about long gaps from one Test to another and instead focuses being in the right frame of mind.

“It’s a simple process. If you think that it’s good if you play a Test after a gap of a year, then it’s good. If you can think that what’s happening is good, I find it easy that way.

“Obviously, everyone feels differently but for me that’s the way it is. It’s applicable to me because that’s how I set myself to think,” he said.

During these meditation sessions, Mominul often incorporates visualization techniques. Visualization involves creating vivid mental images of the desired outcomes and the process of achieving them. Mominul envisions himself batting with supreme confidence, playing shots with impeccable timing and precision. He visualizes the cricketing scenarios he is likely to encounter in the upcoming Test, imagining himself making important contributions to his team’s success.

Apart from meditation and visualization, Mominul also focuses on maintaining his fitness levels during the break. He follows a rigorous training routine that includes gym workouts, running, and specific cricket drills. However, he believes that physical fitness alone is not sufficient to excel in the challenging realm of Test cricket. Mental preparedness plays a crucial role in his success.

To bolster his mental strength, Mominul engages in activities that help him relax and rejuvenate. He spends quality time with his family and loved ones, which allows him to unwind and find solace away from the cricket field. He also indulges in hobbies like reading and listening to music, which help him broaden his perspective and keep his mind stimulated.

When the time finally arrives for Mominul to step onto the field for the next Test match, he carries with him the benefits of his meditation and visualization practices. His calm demeanor and focused mindset enable him to adapt quickly to the demands of the game. He approaches each delivery with a clear mind, relying on his instincts and the mental preparation he has undertaken during the break.
