It will be the fourth match for both teams in the MLC 2025. While the defending champions Washington Freedom are in third position in the points table with four points with two wins and one defeat, the MLC 2023 champions MI New York are in the fourth position in the same points table with two points after one win and two losses.
After starting the season with a 123-run defeat against San Francisco Unicorns, Washington Freedom beat Seattle Orcas and Los Angeles Knight Riders by five wickets and 113 runs, respectively. Meanwhile, MI New York only managed to beat Seattle Orcas in their last game by seven wickets after losing against Texas Super Kings and San Francisco Unicorns by three runs and three wickets, respectively.
It will be their fifth meeting in the MLC's history. In their two meetings in the MLC 2023, including the Eliminator, MI New York won both matches (by eight wickets in the league stage and by 16 runs in the Eliminator). In the MLC 2024, they met twice in the league stage, and Washington Freedom won both the matches by four runs (DLS method) and 94 runs, respectively.
