Sanju Samson joins the elite list of players with the most runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup 2026 with a stellar batting display.

India are playing against New Zealand in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 in Ahmedabad, and Sanju Samson once again played an astounding knock in the match. This was his third half-century of the tournament, and he went on to miss a well-deserved century by 11 runs. After giving an excellent start to the innings, he was dismissed on 89 runs.
He took 46 balls and hit five boundaries and eight sixes. It was one of the best innings in the finals of the tournament. He was supported by Abhishek Sharma at the start, who also scored a half-century. The left-handed batter scored 21-ball 52 runs, hitting six boundaries and three sixes. Both the openers gave a perfect start to the tournament.
After Abhishek's dismissal, Ishan Kishan joined the party and slammed a half-century. He went on to score 54 in 25 balls, including four boundaries and sixes. Among these scores, Samson took the limelight as he surpassed Virat Kohli as the highest run-scorer for India in a World Cup edition.

Sanju Samson goes past Virat Kohli in T20 World Cup
India's former cricketer Virat Kohli is well-known for his incredible batting and the way he performs when the team needs him the most. The world has seen him score runs again and again in every situation. Back in 2014, he scored 319 runs in the T20 World Cup, becoming the highest individual scorer in a single edition.
This season, Samson took five innings to surpass Kohli. He has scored 321 runs at an average of 85.25 in the ongoing tournament. However, Sahibzada Farhan broke the record a few days ago as he scored 383 runs in six innings, at an average of 76.60.
Samson joined the elite list of players to have scored the most runs in an edition. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan also scored 317 runs in nine innings, at an average of 35.22.
