The wicket-keeper batter had been in hot form with three successive fifties during the recently finished T20 World Cup 2026 that India went on to win.

Nandre Burger strikes early to remove Sanju Samson
Nandre Burger, the left-arm pacer for the Royals, got the chance to bowl the second over of the innings, and on the final delivery of the second over, he drew the first blood with the wicket of Samson for six runs. The right-handed batter was not sure in judging the length of the delivery.
It was a cracking ball from the pacer as it moved away from the right-handed batter, and once the ball made the movement, the batter shaped to play across the line and saw his stumps being broken as it crashed into the off-stump.
RR suffer early setback against CSK in crucial encounter
CSK had one of the worst starts in the campaign as they lost their three top-order wickets in just four overs. After the dismissal of Samson, they saw their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, getting back into the hut as he made room against Jofra Archer and saw the batter breaking the furniture.

Burger came back for his second over and got the gloves of Ayush Mhatre to send the batter for a first-ball duck as the Chennai were pushed to make the change and brought Sarfaraz Khan as the impact player during the fourth over of the innings.
