Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has become part of a controversy during the 2026 Pakistan Super League. A social media post about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz led to widespread debate and questions about possible disciplinary action.

The incident happened during the opening match of the PSL between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen on Thursday. Maryam Nawaz was present at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore as the guest of honour. She was welcomed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who also introduced her to the franchise owners.

The Chief Minister was then introduced to the players from both teams. Shortly after, a post from Naseem Shah's account on X sparked a major controversy among Pakistan fans.

What Naseem Shah said and why it sparked controversy

The issue began during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Pakistan Super League, where Maryam Nawaz attended as a special guest and was received by Pakistan Cricket Board officials. Shortly after, a post from Naseem Shah’s social media account questioned the attention given to her at the event. The remark quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions across online platforms.

The post also included a PCB video showing Mohsin Naqvi greeting Maryam Nawaz.

The deleted message read, “Why is she being treated like the queen at Lords?”

It was removed soon after. Naseem later clarified that the post was not intentional, stating that his account had been hacked. He said, “This account of Naseem was recently hacked, but now recovered successfully.”

PSL authorities likely to take action after incident

The controversial post could put Naseem Shah under scrutiny, and PSL authorities are likely to review the matter, although no official action has been taken so far. He is set to play for Rawalpindiz, who are making their debut in the league this season.

While such claims are sometimes genuine, accounts of public figures are often targeted by hackers. Still, many users remain doubtful, as similar cases—controversial posts followed by quick deletion and hacking claims—have happened before.

The remark also highlighted a wider concern. The presence of political figures at cricket events, especially in roles that place them above players and officials, has long been a topic of debate. The post, regardless of who wrote it, brought this issue into public focus.

Fans react to Naseem Shah’s viral remark

Fans quickly reacted to Naseem Shah’s viral post on social media. Many users shared their opinions, with some supporting his comment and others criticizing it. A few people believed his account was hacked, while others were not convinced. The topic started a wide discussion online, with fans talking about both the post and the role of political figures at cricket events.
