New Zealand name ODI squad for England series, include fresh debutants

New Zealand Women have announced a 15-member squad for their upcoming ODI series against England next month, with several fresh faces included for their first overseas tour. The white-ball series will serve as essential practice for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 tournament.

The New Zealand team will use their combination of young and experienced players to test their skills in English weather conditions under the leadership of Amelia Kerr. Veteran batter Suzie Bates will participate in her final ODI series because she plans to end her international cricket career after the T20 World Cup.

New faces earn call-up as New Zealand backs young talent

The first overseas ODI tour for Flora Devonshire and Nensi Patel who play spin-bowling all-rounder while Emma McLeod and Izzy Sharp who bat have received their first call-up. The quartet impressed during New Zealand’s recent home ODI series wins against Zimbabwe and South Africa earlier this year.

The team management granted them an overseas experience opportunity to compete against England which is a strong opponent. Head coach Ben Sawyer described the squad balance as excellent while he explained that young players already demonstrated their ability to compete at international competition.

Squad announced for ODI clashes against England national cricket team

The three-match ODI series begins on May 10 in Durham before moving to Northampton and Cardiff. The matches will provide both teams with essential game experience which they will use to prepare for the T20 World Cup.
