The buzz for India's upcoming tour to England is getting more and more intense. The squad for the tournament will be announced in two weeks, confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia.
The selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, is expected to arrange a meeting ahead of the final match of the ongoing IPL 2025. The England vs. India Test series is scheduled to start on June 20 and will conclude on August 4. The series will mark a new cycle for a fresh World Test Championship. This meeting is important as India might look to appoint a new captain who can lead the side throughout the 2025-2027 cycle of the World Test Championship. Also, with age not being on Rohit side's, there can be a change in regime for the upcoming Test series against England
It was the first time India missed a final spot in the three WTC seasons, which have concluded so far. Team India was in a vulnerable situation when they traveled to Australia for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a historic downfall against New Zealand, where Rohit Sharma and Co. suffered a humiliating 0-3 loss in the home series. Senior cricketers like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were totally out of form and became one of the reasons behind India's downfall in the Test format.

Now, before the England tour, cricket fans are curious to know about Rohit Sharma's future for the highly anticipated away series. Rohit managed just 164 runs in eight matches during the 2024-25 season. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia preferred not to speak when he was asked about the possibilities of senior players for the England vs. India Test series.
As of now, Sharma's participation in the tournament is uncertain. Though, team India head coach Gautam Gambhir previously supported senior players despite their lack of form. "Till the time they (Rohit and Kohli) are performing, they should be part of the team. When you start and when you end is your individual decision," Gambhir said.
