September 17, 1986- Birthday of Indian great Ravichandran Ashwin, who came into Team India as the replacement of Harbhajan Singh and quickly cemented his place in the first XI.

The Tamil Nadu-born was mainly known for his offspin and specialization in carrom ball, but with the growing demand of modern cricket, he polished his batting skills as well. The bowling all-rounder's international career started with a bang. Ashwin took nine wickets in his maiden Test, in which he was Player of the Match.

In his first 16 Test matches, he claimed nine five-wicket figures, and in record time, he became the fastest bowler to take 300 Test wickets and the second fastest to trap 400 scalps, just behind Sri Lanka legend Muthiah Muralitharan. One of the most notable stats from Ashwin's Test career is that he had 37 five-fors and 8 ten-wicket hauls. With the bat, he amassed six 100s and fourteen 50s as well. In 2016, during the tour of the West Indies, he scored two Test hundreds from No. 6 in Antigua and became the third player after Jack Gregory and Ian Botham to take a seven-for and score a century in a Test match.

A remarkable Innings that broke many records

The following season turned more memorable for him as he got ICC's Cricketer of the Year and Test Player of the Year for taking 82 wickets at 25.28 in 14 home tests. In 2023 and 2024, Ashwin was equally effective against Australia and England in home assignments. reached the 500-wicket mark during the Tests against England. In both of the series, he emerged as the top wicket taker.

Ravichandran Ashwin concluded his Test career with 537 Test wickets and 3503 runs in 106 matches.
