On September 22, 2024, for the fourth time in his career, Ravichandran Ashwin scored a century along with a 5-wicket haul. Bangladesh was nowhere near to creating a threat for India, the home side. Ravichandran Ashwin was named as the man of the match for his all-round performance in Chennai. In this game, he scored 113 runs in the first innings and claimed 6 wickets in the second innings; in the first innings, he caused no damage to Bangladesh.

The match was not a high-scoring event. India went to bat first in the first innings and started to lose wickets. India lost 3 wickets for only 34 runs on board. Then the captain, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli all went back to the pavilion cheaply. Notably, it was Rishabh Pant's first Test match after the life-threatening car accident in 2022. He batted well, even scored a ton in the second phase of the game, and in the first innings, he snatched 39 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal played an anchor part in the first innings of the match when the other top three batters were gone. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin played a massive role in rescuing the team from the mud. Jadeja got 86, and Ashwin recorded 113 off 133. With the help of a century and a couple of fifty-plus individuals, India registered 376 in the first innings.Hasan Mahmud took 5 wickets for Bangladesh.

Ravichandran Ashwin did not allow Bangladesh batters to bring on their claws

Bangladesh, who was in poor form ahead of the India hurdle, could not do any better to overshadow India's labored first-innings total. Jasprit Bumrah claimed 4 wickets and two wickets each for Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja. Bangladesh lost all of their men for only 149 runs.

The match could have intensified if Bangladesh had managed to bowl well in the second innings. Centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant closed all of their paths to make a return into the game. India set a target of 515 runs for Bangladesh in the final innings of the match. In reply they scored only 234; India won the match by 280 runs. Ashwin in the second innings clinched 5 batters from the crease to smooth India's road to victory.
