As the defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the 2026 season, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has continued to search for a new buyer; another franchise has reportedly been put on sale. It has been noted that the inaugural champions of the league, the Rajasthan Royals, could be put on sale by their owners.

Harsh Goenka, the brother of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owners- Sanjiv Goenka, has revealed the news on X (formerly known as Twitter). At the moment, the 2008 champions of the franchise event are owned by the Royals Sports Group (Emerging Media Sporting Holdings Limited), which has a 65% stake in it. The minority stakes are owned by Red Bird Capital Partners and Lachlan Murdoch.

“I hear, not one, but two IPL teams are now up for sale- RCB and RR. It seems clear that people want to cash in on the rich valuations today. So two teams for sale and 4/5 possible buyers! Who will be the successful buyers- will it be from Pune, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, or the USA?Harsh wrote on his X account.

Rajasthan Royals reportedly to be put on sale after RCB ahead of IPL 2026

Reports claimed that Diageo, the parent company of United Spirits Limited, is asking for a valuation of USD 2 billion for the Bengaluru side. The sale is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026. The franchise bid for players and participated in the WPL auction on November 27.

“United Spirits Ltd. ("USL") is initiating a strategic review of the investment in its wholly owned subsidiary, RCSPL. RCSPL's business comprises ownership of the "Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)" franchise teams that participate in the Men's Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women's Premier League (WPL) cricket tournaments hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annually.The company expressed in the statement.

Rajasthan Royals made a massive decision to omit their long-time captain, Sanju Samson, before the 2026 edition, with their old member and veteran spin all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, getting traded from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) along with the pace bowling all-rounder, Sam Curran.
