On Wednesday, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal stated that the team has already begun preparing for the Indian Premier League in 2019. He also said that they will work hard to bring Delhi back to its former glory under the direction of Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly.

“With @SGanguly99 and @RickyPonting, we assure the fans that Kiran and I are working hard to get back to where we want this franchise to be, which is right at the very top,” he tweeted. “Preparations for next year @IPL are underway here @DelhiCapitals.”

After there had been rumors that Ganguly and Ponting would be let go as a result of Delhi’s shoddy performance in the IPL this season, this tweet almost guarantees that they will remain with the team.

This tweet all but confirms that Ganguly and Ponting is set to continue with the franchise after there was speculation that they’ll be let go after Delhi’s woeful form in this season’s IPL.

Given the resources at their disposal, which include a star-studded management team led by Ponting as head coach and Ganguly as director of cricket, Delhi’s form had surprised many.

This season, the Capitals had a forgettable IPL campaign when they started the tournament with five losses in a row. They would briefly regain their form in the middle of the league, but then they went back to their old ways and finished 9th with just 10 points from 14 games.

They were also without their regular captain, Rishabh Pant, who was ruled out for life after a terrible accident in December of last year. Combined with that and their hitters like Prithvi Shaw and David Warner not in hot form, the mission was one to forget for the Delhi-based group.
