Pakistan knock on ICC’s door to remove this member from Asia Cup 2025 after defeat against India
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has knocked on the door of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to remove this member from the 2025 season of the Asia Cup after their seven-wicket defeat against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The handshake saga has continued after Pakistan’s seven-wicket defeat against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), after protesting the Suryakumar Yadav-led side with the ICC match referee, has turned the heat on the match official. They have demanded the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft from the rest of the tournament.
Pycroft has been the centre of the controversy after he requested the Pakistan captain, Salman Ali Agha, not to shake hands with Sky at the toss ceremony. India didn’t follow the normal rituals of shaking hands after the end of the encounter. It’s not clear if PCB has filed the complaint for both reasons or one of these.

“The PCB has complained to the ICC regarding violations by the Match Referee of the ICC Code of Conduct and the MCC Laws about the Spirit of Cricket. The PCB has demanded an immediate removal of the Match Referee from the Asia Cup.” The chairman of the board, Mohsin Naqvi, expressed in a social media post on September 15.

Pycroft is one of the most experienced members of the officials, having been in the ICC Elite Panel since 2009. Along with him, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had also appointed West Indies’ Richie Richardson for the tournament. The Elite Panel currently includes three more referees- India’s Javagal Srinath, Sri Lanka’s Ranjan Madugalle, and New Zealand’s Jeff Crowe.
“Team manager Naveed Cheema lodged a strong protest against the Indian players' behavior of not shaking hands. It was deemed as unsporting and against the spirit of the game. As a protest, we did not send our captain to the post-match ceremony.” The Pakistan management protested the ‘unsporting’ behavior of the Blue Brigade.
In protest of India’s refusal to shake hands with the opponents, PCB didn’t send their captain, Salman Agha, to the post-match presentation. As a reason, reports claimed that they don’t want to go through the interaction with Sanjay Manjrekar, an Indian, hosting the post-match presentation ceremony.
