While starting the 217-run chase for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the question was how the home side would restrict the visiting opening pair of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both of whom have put the opposition under pressure throughout this event. 

Finally, Praful Hinge was introduced into the attack by Hyderabad. He could have featured in the previous contest against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). But the management decided to use Jaydev Unadkat as the impact player, and that perhaps charged up the Vidarbha bowler a little more.

After giving away a single on the very first ball of the second innings to Jaiswal, Hinge tried the short ball against young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. It was a short delivery to the 15-year-old, who wanted to go hard on the pull as the ball took the sticker of his bat and went straight up in the air.

Sooryavanshi made the mistake of taking his eyes off the ball while connecting the shot, and that led to his downfall with the wicket-keeper, Salil Arora, grabbing a simple catch to send back the wonder kid for a golden duck.

A ball later, Hinge dismissed inform Dhurv Jurel. He used the length delivery outside the off stump as the right-handed batter made the mistake of playing with an angled bat. The thick outside edge went back and uprooted the off-stump. It hit the bat hard and forced him to attempt the mistake.

The pacer finished the opening over with the wicket of debutant Lhuan-dre-Pretorious, who flicked the leg-side delivery into the hands of the deep backward square leg as Hinge ended his opening over with 3/1.

That was the first instance of a bowler bagging three wickets in the first over of an IPL innings. There have been 32 other incidents of a bowler getting two wickets in the first over of an IPL innings. The previous one for SRH was by Bhuvneshwar Kumar - against the same team at the same venue in 2024 (Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson).

Hinge came back in his second over to find the outside edge of RR captain, Riyan Parag, who gave a simple catch to the only slip fielder, Abhishek Sharma, to make his way back into the hut for four runs.

Since then, the onus fell on the sixth wicket stand between Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira, who shouldered them to 51/5 in seven overs.
