Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to wish Mohammed Shami a speedy recovery after ankle surgery. The India speedster will be missing this IPL following the same.

PM’s wish for Shami

Mohammed Shami had taken to Instagram to inform about his successful surgery on his long-standing injury. “Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet. #AchillesRecovery #HeelSurgery #RoadToRecovery,” Shami had tweeted.

After the post wishes poured in for his speedy recovery and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wrote about it on the X platform. He said, “Wishing you a speedy recovery and good health, @MdShami11! I’m confident you’ll overcome this injury with the courage that is so integral to you.”

No Shami in IPL 2024

Meanwhile, Shami will be missing the upcoming Indian Premier League as he will be recovering from the surgery. He hasn’t played cricket since India’s World Cup campaign. He took 24 wickets in seven games at an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20. However, India lost in the final to Australia. Shami was in pain during the entire tournament. Since then he has been on injections to rehabilitate his ankle and therefore out of action for a while.

Shami was still hopeful to be match fit ahead of the Test series between India and England. However, the idea was ruled out later in January and he went to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for a reassessment.

As far as the IPL 2023 is concerned, Shami’s absence is a major setback for the Gujarat Titans. The Shubman Gill-led side traded Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal. Shami, as their leading wicketkeeper of last season was an important member of the squad. His prolific performance helped the side claim second place in the IPL 2023.
