Prithvi Shaw to Look for a Fresh Start:
Prithvi Shaw, who recently made the switch from Mumbai to Maharashtra, has been named in the state’s 16-member squad for the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season, starting October 15. Maharashtra will face Kerala in their opening fixture in Thiruvananthapuram, with Ankeet Bawane leading the side as full-time captain.
The 25-year-old batter is eyeing a fresh chapter in red-ball cricket after losing his place in Mumbai’s lineup. Shaw has already made an impact in the build-up, smashing 181 runs in a warm-up game against his former team. He and Arshin Kulkarni stitched together a massive 305-run stand, with Kulkarni also reaching three figures—showcasing the promise and depth in Maharashtra’s top order ahead of the season.
Shaw also used the pre-season period to reconcile with former Mumbai teammate Musheer Khan following their recent on-field clash, a source told TOI. That source said, “ Prithvi realized his mistake, and approached Musheer and apologised to him. Prithvi told him that 'I am like an elder brother to you.' So all is well between the two.” The episode occurred in a warm-up game against Mumbai, broadcast live by the Maharashtra Cricket Association for fans to watch.
Joining Shaw in Maharashtra’s squad is experienced all-rounder Jalaj Saxena, who recently completed a long stint with Kerala and played a pivotal role in their journey to last season’s Ranji Trophy final. His presence is expected to strengthen the team’s middle order and provide stability for a strong campaign.
Shaw’s recent Instagram post highlights his renewed focus on cricket and personal growth ahead of the season. Featuring prayers and a pooja, the post reflects his effort to reset his mindset after recent on-field incidents, aiming to revive his red-ball career and lead Maharashtra effectively in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season.
